Hungary’s largest iron cast foundry is in the European top tier

By producing more than 43,000 tonnes of heavy vehicle parts, Győr-based Busch-Hungária experienced the most successful year of its operation last year. The largest iron foundry in Hungary raised its production volume by 20% in 2021. Due to its major technological investments, now it is capable of smelting and recycling more than 20,000 tonnes of waste iron per hour. The company, which employs 360 workers, closed a strong year in 2021 from a financial point of view as well. Its income was nearly 66.5 million euros in the past year.

The result, which is outstanding in the European iron casting market, stemmed from intensive technological investments by Busch-Hungária. “We have closed a five-year innovational period, in which we invested nearly 19 million euros. As a result of this, at the end of last year we increased our smelting capacity by 25%, which means that the amount of raw material that we can process grew by 50% compared to 2017. Parallel to this, we raised the utilization of the foundry above 80%, which is outstanding even by industry standards, and we also maximized the technical availability,” explains Dávid Hegymegi, the Managing Director of Busch-Hungária.

The Győr-based company produced more than 43,000 tonnes of high-quality casts last year, which means a 51% increase on the basis of five years. Busch-Hungária flexibly handled changes to the needs of the market, so it was successful financially too. In 2021, its income was nearly 66.5 million euros, which is a 53% increase compared to the previous year. The development of the Győr foundry has not ended by any means, the company is going to continue increasing its capacity and efficiently maximizing investments in the coming years. Also, in order to improve working conditions and to achieve a more sustainable operation, it is continuously modernizing its factory areas and office buildings.

“We have reached this milestone from the point of view that our company joined the German BPW group 15 years ago and it was a big step on the road that has led to our present-day successes,” Dávid Hegymegi added. “Busch-Hungária has strengthened its relations with the prime levels of the vehicle industry, and besides conserving Győr’s traditions in iron casting, we have also gained European-level acknowledgment by the industry with our many additional innovations. In the years ahead of us we are going to work on strengthening our international positions in order to become a major player of the European iron cast industry.”
